Learning, accounts and your sketches
Learning and Play work without an account. If you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple account identifier and verify your sign-in. We do not request your Apple name or email. A preset musical alias and avatar identify your public competition profile. Your learning answers, corrections, completed lessons, XP, badges and device-specific unfinished sessions are synchronized to our server so you can continue on your devices. Learning synchronization is separate from optional analytics. Play sketches stay on this iPhone, in separate guest and account spaces. We do not upload your artwork. No microphone, contacts or location permission is required.
Fair musical competition
Competition asks first. After you sign in, the Compete tab explains what is shared. Nothing is sent to competition, and your profile joins no league or leaderboard, until you choose “Agree and compete”. From then on, Daily Arena and duel answers are sent to our server for scoring. We retain first answers, results, league and season history, friendship links, invitations and block preferences to operate competition. Public rankings show your musical alias, avatar and Arena points. Apple App Attest verifies participating app installations. Security systems process request metadata and IP addresses to protect accounts and prevent abuse. Competition has no chat or uploaded profile photos.
Optional notifications
Practice reminders are scheduled on your device. Duel invitations and results can use Apple Push Notification service when you enable them. The server stores your device push token and separate invitation/result choices. You can turn either off in account settings, or manage notification permission in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Apple handles payments. RevenueCat checks subscription access using an anonymous app user identifier or your verified HearBack account identifier, product and transaction information, purchase dates, subscription status and technical request information. We do not receive your payment card details. This processing is needed to deliver and restore Pro access. Purchase records are retained as required to administer subscriptions and meet applicable obligations.
Apple Ads attribution
We advertise HearBack with Apple Ads in the United States. When HearBack is installed from the US App Store, the app passes Apple’s AdServices attribution token to RevenueCat, so we can see which Apple Ads campaign, ad group and keyword, if any, led to an install, a trial or a subscription. In other countries this happens only if you choose to share usage events. The token comes from Apple, needs no tracking permission and contains no advertising identifier, name or contact details; Apple uses it to report the campaign, never who you are. We do not use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Optional product analytics
Analytics are off unless you choose to share. HearBack asks once, when you start using the app, and you can change your answer anytime in Settings under “Share usage events”. If you share, we use PostHog’s EU service to understand explicit events such as onboarding steps, session starts, answer outcomes, audio errors and paywall activity, together with app/device information, a random installation identifier and context such as your plan, your App Store country, the app’s language and, if an Apple Ads ad led to the install, its campaign, ad group and keyword numbers. Before you answer the question, events from your first minutes in the app wait on your device: sharing sends them with their original times, and choosing Not now deletes them. We do not record screens, automatically capture taps, collect raw answers or send sketches. PostHog does not keep your IP address or use it to locate you. You can turn this off in Settings. Turning it off stops new optional events; contact us to request deletion of previously collected information.
Anonymous service counts
Our server counts what happens in the service, for example that an account was created, a daily Arena round or duel finished, a match found an opponent, learning was synchronized or a request failed, and sends these counts to PostHog’s EU service. They carry no account, device, invitation or network identifier and never create a profile, so nothing in them points to you. They help us keep competition and backup reliable, and they do not depend on the in-app setting.
No advertising tracking
We do not sell personal data, show advertising in the app or track you across other companies’ apps or websites. HearBack does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and never asks for tracking permission. RevenueCat is the source for subscription revenue, renewal and refund reporting.
This website and support
This website uses PostHog’s EU service in cookieless mode to count page views and two actions: checking a challenge code and tapping Open HearBack on an invitation page. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Page addresses are sent without their query strings, so challenge and invitation codes stay private. PostHog counts unique visitors each day with a one-way hash of your IP address and browser details and a salt it deletes daily; it does not keep your IP address. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the site loads no analytics. The site has no account or contact form. The hosting provider may process IP addresses and request logs to serve and secure pages. If you email us, we use your email address and message to respond and resolve the issue.
Your choices
You can delete your HearBack account in Account settings. This removes its server learning and social data, revokes HearBack sessions, and queues Apple sign-in token revocation for retry if Apple is unavailable. Your local account data is removed. Access-restricted operational backups expire after 14 days; deletion records are reapplied if a backup is restored. You can also delete individual sketches in Play. Deleting local data does not cancel your Apple subscription. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, object to processing, or contact your local privacy authority. Contact us to make a request.

HearBack is a general-audience music learning app, not a service designed to collect children’s personal information. We will update this page when our practices change and identify the updated date above.
